Is plumbing antifreeze harmful to HW tank?

I got a small amount of antifreeze in my hot water tank when I winterized our 5th wheel. Is it harmful to the tank?

I hope you mean the PINK RV/Marine anti-freeze....if so, no problem. But why it got IN the tank...a faulty fitting or "o" ring? Either way...you're ok...just be sure to flush it out either by draining the tank or hooking up a hose and letting it flush out via a faucet. Be thorough, tho.

Yes pink plumbing antifreeze. I blew a little into the tank winterizing. The manufacturer changed/updated the winterization procedure for our trailer. I had already winterized our trailer when I saw a post about an update to the manual. The update calls for the HW line between the bypass valve at the panel to the tank to be blown out. Because I had already winterized the trailer there was a small amount in the system. No problems with "o" rings or valves.

  • No, it won't hurt the tank. Rinse well in the spring.
You could fill the tank with antifreeze if you chose, but it's just a waste of product.
