I've camped on BLM land about 50-75 ft. from circled wagons groups. Usually I do this if I have an intuitive negative feeling about my surroundings.
Being a woman travelling solo, I want to be close enough in case of an unforeseen, unwelcome event, yet far enough from the group that I hope I'm not seen as encroaching.
I also tend to make myself very visible at first, so members of said groups(s)won't feel threatened by my presence.
I fully understand.
I did notice this yearthere was alot more people camping in the desert, it was like the old days before fuel became so expensive. I also noticed that where we camped "Calcity Offroad Park" is well represented by the Calcity PD, they were very helpfull, excited to see all the people camping and never once hassled anyone i knew or even seen. Borax Bill Park was a great vendors row with hot food and supplies plus shirts and other souveniers.
I just wanted to point out how the local PD acted, they were very nice and nothing like BLM rangers. Calcity has no BLM, they are localy policed.
