We just camped out at JV last T-day weekend. After spending a few years at Boone Rd w/ the city we decided to get away from it all. Now that everyone in our group has a 4x4 tow vehicle, we just went up Camp Rock Rd and turned off into the brush and made our own spot. Had a glorious weekend with nobody near our camp. Great weekend! Rode up some ridges to the south and could see the dust bowls of Soggy Dry Lake and Means... no thanks!
That said, one year at Ocotillo we had a guy pull within 20 yards of our large group. We did the nice thing and went to talk to him about his proximity. He just said, "this is my spot, I always camp here" and he refused to move. He made some other comments about not giving a******what we think and "it's a free country" and whatnot. Unfortunately for him he was close to one of the mini-tracks that had been cut in and we encouraged our kids to loop it all day long. We tried to be nice but it didn't work. Wasn't a holiday either and there was plenty of space.
