Jacking up Fifth wheel

I'm going to install wet bolts on my Jayco and need to lift and remove bolts from spring shackles and since it has RE MORryde suspension i need to replace shackle plate .
Question is lifting and where to place jack stands and were to lift .I have been told not axle as this will bend and then it would have to be realigned. Any knowledge or suggestions.

Thanks Terry

  • I used my TrailerAid Plus while hooked to the truck on my last DRV along with a floor jack to replace all the bushings.
  • Well, you have to support/raise the frame if you're unhooking the suspension. But you also have to jack the wheels up to support them so you can remove the bolts.

Obviously you can't jack up just the wheels, or just the frame. It takes a combination of both to do suspension work.
  • I would not jack on the axles. If you look at the geometry you will see the unbolts only hold the axle in place. Axle tubes are made from very light gauge steel. Jack only on the frame to be safe.

I also recommend having the 5th wheel hitched to your truck which takes a lot of strain off of the landing gear.
  • I jacked directly under the U-Bolts that attach the springs to the axles. I did all three of my axles that way, and have done it to change tires also. So far so good.
