We did the Elko ATV Jamboree 3 years ago- there are plenty of places to go both north and south of Elko. They had a ride to Jarbidge- the trailhead is off the 225. It was 1/2 a day up and 1/2 back. There's a gas station and diner up there (at least there was three years ago). There's a good RV park in the "middle" of Elko- if you stay there you'll need to find some way to get your ATVs out to the trails.
We did a deer hunt last fall about an hour northwest of Elko on BLM land/campground. It's dry campng, but there plenty of trails and roads- a few active mines ("mineral", not "land"). One word of caution- there's a few mines that have those e-nourmous eath-mover dump trucks- stay as far away from them as you can, because I doubt they'd be able to see you, and would make a stain out of you if they ever ran over you. Another thing- for some reason, they all drive on the left-side of the road.
