Jayco(Australia) building its truly 1/2 ton towable model

This would be an Alternative to some lightweight models on the US/Canadian market.
Asian 3 Litre Diesel Pickups have no problems towing it.The 5th Wheeler comes in the small 24ft 3 inch size(7105lb) and goes to a modest 28ft 8 inches(8567lb).Bigger size a US Pickup or a very light truck
There’s a lot for a relatively small but growing group of Australians to like in Jayco 24ft 5th Wheeler.

It’s an attractive, roomy, stylish and surprisingly practical package that’s set to take the lion’s share of the Australian market for these large, American-style vehicles, which in 2012 accounted for less than just 250 units, Australia-wide.

Jayco wasn’t amongst the brands in the 45 Aussie units in that mix then, but with plans to build 65 keenly-priced 5th wheelers a year at its Dandenong plant, it will both expand the market and eat into the dominant imports in 2014.

I think a 3 liter diesel will have a problem towing it in America, where 4% grades are normally driven up and down at 55 - 65 MPH, and 6% grades most big rigs are going 45 - 55 MPH

Same as in Australia. You get fined if you go too slow.No they are more worried about fuel consumption.

    My thoughts, EXACTLY.
  • Looks like there's GOBS of storage inside - but not much storage on the outside? There's just certain things I DON'T want to carry inside - like a wet patio mat; or the gas grill, etc....

I know that Ford used to sell the 7.3L diesel in their F-250's down there. That would tow it at American speeds.

I wonder why the slide out is so small. A slide can greatly expand the RV while parked, and make it compact and towable while driving. I have always been one to recommend installing a rear slide-out about 4' deep, with the bedroom in there, or perhaps a bathroom or living room.

And who says the walls MUST slide in with the slide out? Why not use pocket type doors for the sidewalls of the slide out? You could have a 4' deep slide out with only 18" triple thick wall slide into the RV.

  • Looks like style and substance!

When will the US market wake up and start looking overseas for inspiration for their tired, stale old products!

I know Lance woke up and went to Germany for the SolidWorks design software and the CNC Routers, etc.

Thanks Robert for bringing this to our attention!
