Junk Yard Gas Tank for Aux Fuel

I'm considering pulling a small gas tank from a junk yard vehicle to use as an auxiliary fuel tank. I would use it to fuel my Yamaha generator and scooter. It seems like it would be simple to fire up the in-tank fuel pump and even add a gas gauge. Has this been done by anyone?
