Well you'll be thrilled to know that the government just extended the "lifeline" program to include BROADBAND internet as well. So now they'll get phones and free high speed internet...makes me sick.
It's not Obama's fault. The idea of providing equal access to communications technology for all Americans came from the founding of the FCC in 1934. In 1984, the Lifeline Assistance Program was started (the real name of the "Obamaphone" program. It was expanded to include a subsidy for telephones for the needy in 1996. So if you like, you can blame Presidents Clinton, Reagan and Roosevelt.
