Take the carb off the generator, take the bowl off and run a thin wire, or a torch tip cleaner, through the jets. That is what always clogs up when a carb is left unused with gas in it for a long time. It won't want to start or idle and will need the choke partly on when running full speed, due to lack of fuel through the clogged slow and main jets. Also change the inline fuel filter.
As far as the wood rot goes, if it's that extensive, I would not waste effort tearing it all apart to fix it. I would just seal it up so no more water gets in, and use it the way it is. Have your fun with it for a few years, then sell it when you're done with it. The rotted wood won't ruin your camping trips.
