Kayak transport

Hi All,
Been absorbing all sorts of information from this great site for a while now. The DW and I are preparing to get started in the RV life and doing some research. Right now I think my preference is to look to buy a 5er for our first RV. One major concern I have is how to bring 2 kayaks with us ? Is this even possible without changing to a TT to free up the TV bed ? Someone out there must have found a way to either secure a kayak inside, or on the roof. Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance

We went with this one (http://rvkayakrack.com/). But you need a good receiver hitch welded to you fiver frame. I had to have our hitch redone because of the weight. There is also another alternative that I was interested in (http://usrack.com/fifth_wheel_rack_heavy_duty.php). Hope this helps.
  • Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if they would bounce around and cause damage if brought inside. At least I know it is a possibility.
  • When we had our 5'er we purchased a 2" receiver hitch for the front of our truck. I was then able to purchase the adapters I needed to carry the kayaks over the hood and cab of the truck. Tying them down was always a little tricky and there was always a water mess over the hood and cab. One tip is to keep your kayaks light making it easier to lift up there (check out the Swift line of kayaks here is my wife's kayak -http://www.swiftcanoe.com/#!adirondack-12-lt/c1wd4).
  • Although we have a TT, when we bring kayaks with us, we stow them inside the trailer. We move them in with the slide out, then maneuver them into a final position when we retract the he slide. It only takes 10 minutes and we don't worry about theft.
