I would like to receive input as to the Pro's and Con's of the Keystone Montana 5th Wheel trailers. I have noticed that there are a large number of used Montana 5th wheels for sale at the Dealers. Is there a reason? Are they built well or do they not hold up well?ThanksDale

We can't be happier with our Montana. This is the 2nd 5th wheel and 6th RV we have owned and is by far the nicest. The build quality is great and so far everything has held up nicely. I will say that Keystone skimps on the tires that they put on the Montana's. These are heavy rigs and they put "E" rated 10 ply tires on them instead of 14 ply tires. If you are considering buying a Montana I would highly suggest getting on the Montana Owners Club forum and ask questions. Very knowledgeable group of folks. Tim

We bought our 2007 Montana new July '07, very happy with it and almost no problems.Actually Montana has been the best selling 5er for the last 11 years. So naturally you will see more used ones. There is a very active Montana Owners Club forum. Many members are on their 2nd, 3rd, or more Montanas.

Go look one over CLOSELY they offer a lot for the money but IMHO they are very cheaply built. My parents friends love theirs as do other friends of ours but I know several that hate theirs. So it's a mixed bag.I am a very picky person, finish carpenter/perfectionist. So i may be more critical than most. We really looked a 3400 over years ago but I could not get past the poor quality.All JMHO.

As with any product line, marketing has a great deal to do with popularity, but even with that said, Montana's - the high end model - appear to be very popular with satisfied customers. When we were in the market to buy a fifth wheel, we looked closely at the Montana and they were quality built. For us though, we went with the Heartland Bighorn comparably built but with a few more features that we wanted. And like someone here said, most comparably priced (higher end) units will be better built, as has been the case for our Bighorn. I would suspect that the reason you see so many used is that the owners upgraded to a newer model of Montana or larger one!

Mountaineer not even in the same league as Montana - so not a fair comparison. Mountaineer is the econo line.

Very well stated Dale. The Montana line is no different. There are actually 4 different models of Montana's. Montana High Country, Montana Mountaineer, Montana, and the Montana Big Sky. Within each model there are several different floor plans. The first two Montana's mentioned are the lighter weight Montana models and the later two are more the luxury models with the Big Sky being the top of the line Montana. To group all of these 5th wheels together is really not fair. You have to look at which model people are having more problems with then make your own decision whether you want one or not. I personally am very happy with my rig and will definitely consider a Montana when ready to buy again. Tim

As we all know, among any product, there are those that have a good experience and those that have a not so good experience.

Bought a new 2012 in 2012, Montana Mountaineer. Not happy. Wood trim immediately broke of one slide out, both sides. Door on converter broke. As cheaply made as others.
