Kingpin stabilizer

I know it is not the area but didn't know where else to go. I have a Durango 5th wheel on order (used to have a Class A). With all the available kingpin stabilizers, is there a unanimous recommendation of one I should buy. I have looked at the videos--they all seem to have advantages. Help!
  • Just like you I bought and tried a Kingpin tripod. After 2 trips out with the rig, I purchased and installed the JT Stabilizer system and haven't looked back. Tremendous difference in stability. I installed mine myself and it is a bit more to it then just a few hours. You will need really GOOD drill bits and safety goggles and maybe even a 3/8 tap to thread the holes for a better fit. Well worth the work in the end. My wife and I are both hefty folks and the JT's have made the unit much more stabil when parked then just a tripod. If you lived closer --- I would give you my tripod.
  • I use a pair of jack stands. Place one on each side under the frame just forward of the axles. After I level the 5vr, I then raise the front and place the stands under the frame, then lower the front firmly onto the stands. Then lower the rear stabilizers. Works very well. Make sure you get strong stands. Mine are rated for 6000 lbs ea (12,000 for the pair)
  • Before I even get the FW you have convinced me to add the Strongarms to my auto leveling system. Thank you for all of the imput.

Looking at the Durango web page, over half the photos show a stabilizer system on the landing gear, so it must be a factory option which will save you a batch of money on them.

If you are getting the self leveling option, I don't think the stabilizers are very effective on those if they are the piston type like mine.

Not sure you would want, need, or could even use them on the auto leveling systems with the 6 hydraulic jacks.
  • Can't really tell you how many jacks it has (I assumed there would be 4). Typical buyer, they said it was available and I said I would take it. I really liked the no-hassle leveling system on my class A. I am going to wait until after our first outing to see what I will need. I have time--they told me 6-8 weeks. Thanks for yourn time.

Looks like they use a 4-point according to the brochure. They are nice systems!
