Kitchen Island

You can't have it all. Can't have enough floorspace for a squaredance & have a workable galley that has a decent amount of counter space. Lots of them don't have enough room for a bag of chips & a bowl to dump them in.

The DW is a certifiable foodie, coming from a restaurant family. One of the main buying points of our Alpenlite 34RLR was its huge counter area. More even than an island style.

Tried to post a picture of my rear kitchen with a portable island but it didn't load. Maybe someone can tell me how to post them. They are stored in my pictures folder.

It all depends on each individual kitchen and how much counter space it offers. We ordered our 2014 Lifestyle LS36FW without the island. We have more than enough storage and counter space without it. Everyone loves all the room we have without it. In addition, the room we have with the slides in is great while on the road and loading/unloading. Phillip

JMO but you can't have too much counter space.counter space is a big requirement.

I agree with slides in everything may not be accessible.
All floorplans have some sort of compromise. The island floorplan works for me.

I built an island for our 5ver. and it is on casters. Basically what it was 2 upper kitchen cabinets.....18"wide that I put together. They were the right height I wanted along with the 2" swivel casters. When we move...I roll it to the back of the 5ver behind where the lv slide comes in. Lock the casters and it has not moved. We keep our plates/glasses/bowls and lot of extra stuff in that "island".

We got this cool folding cart/ island with a hardwood top at Sams club, that we keep folded, while driving around. Then on arrival, we either open it up, put our keurig on top, or take it outside.

Real convenient

We have had one fiver with an "L" shaped island and now one with a stand alone island. Both had opposing slides and both still had access to frig with slides in. For us the island (with double sink) is a must. If standing at the sink you are not staring at a wall or looking out a little window, you are still able to view the 42" television.

Since the living room/kitchen is over 19'x12' with slides out I am not sure what you would do with a huge empty space in the middle of the kitchen without the island.

Dont get one with the kitchen island.

I also built our island it is 20 60 and 37 high, made from scrach it is on casters, we have oposing slides so we have the room for it. In the past we made other improvments, took out sofa, replaced the org. table and chaires. My wife would not be without the island.

I spent two years in the Sandwich Islands but have never been to the Kitchen Islands. Maybe I should add that to my bucket list. :)
