I have dual motors now, but on my old rig...
Remove the pins (or bolts) that hold the cross shaft in place at BOTH ends. Slide the cross shaft toward one end (probably toward the curb side) until it slips off of the gearbox shaft on the other end. Remove the cross shaft.
