A 34 foot trailer is way to much for a 1/2 ton short wheelbase truck regardless of weight. In a big gust of wind you would be lucky to get stopped before the state line.
You need to be looking in the 22-24 foot range for a conventional bumper pull toy hauler- max! Even then, my guess is that your seat of the pants experience will have you getting a 3/4 ton diesel truck in no time.
No question the 1/2 ton truck are really capable and far more truck than they were even 3-4 years ago. But the laws of physics can only be bent so far. :)
