Yeah...... 4" is too much and depending on how close the load is on the trailers tires may cause the rear tire to run hot or even overloaded.
Looking around the net its a common problem especially with 4wd vehicles.
As lee worsedell mentions he had a flat on a rear axle just as we see others around the net who have towed nose high especially if someone has derated the tire with less than max sidewall pressures. This causes a run hot condition and over time the tire may lose its tread/separate with a slow air loss or even a zipper blowout.
