so the last 2 times I've been out with the rig, my auto level system seems to have a brain fart---when I go to hit the auto level it drops the front of the rig wayyyyy down then goes thru a normal ext...

Good start.
Then level the trailer manually. Front to back and side to side.
Use a bubble level, if you have one, in the fridge, to ensure it is level.
Then start the calibration process.
Been through this before. It was 2 years ago. My 5th has not needed calibration since I bought it and calibrated at that time.
