It's a short screw, probably 3/8", and I ground the sharp point off. Sheet metal type screw. Drilled a pilot hole. There isn't much protruding inside. Don't want it catching any stuff.
No need to seal it. The plastic flows into the threads and does that.
Keeps the valve from growing legs and going home with someone too. Even though I doubt that sewer components are stolen very often. :W
