load weight question

First...i am no where close to the gvwr of the fw.

If i move 300 pounds of weight out of the bed of the tv to behind the rear axle of the fw...have i lowered the payload of the tv and abt what percentage of that 300 is transferred to the hitch pin...thx... bo
  • From OP's profile: forest river microlite 25ds w toyo tundra extended cab

So the question is what does he have that weighs 300 pounds that he can move to the rear of the trailer????

Being a bumper pull moving weight to the rear of the trailer is not a good idea!

On edit: I appears that the OP has a new truck and 5th wheel. He was trying to purchase a 3500 GMC, but may have ended up with a 2500 because of availability!! So we need more info!!!!

  • ...thx everyone...i am buying a 3500 denali and wildcat 295...im just trying to learn all i can abt towing...i obviously have plenty of truck...just curious. ..bo
  • The closer you move weight to the trailer axels the less you'll have on the pin and TV. If you load behind the trailer axles most of that weight settles on the trailer axels but you're only talking about 300 lbs, that's really nothing in comparison to your total gross weight. If you're worried about 300 lbs extra on your truck you don't have enough truck!

  • I've actually done this experiment. Moving 300 Lbs from the bed of the truck to the rear of a 5 wheel doesn't changed the total weight, obviously. What it does do is add 300 lbs. to the axle weight of the trailer. On mine it added about 100 each to rear axles, 50 each to the front axles. On the pin weight it dropped about 25. So I kept the tool box in the truck. Did it change the handling? Not really. I haul a 20K trailer, pin weight 4500 so no it didn't make muck difference, just changed my mind and wanted the tools with the truck.

A Toy hauler is designed front heavy on purpose a normal FW not so, if you like to give bad advise be my gest, as already mentioned opviesly TV is not op to doing the job.
    Frank.
While I agree a toy hauler is deliberately front heavy when empty YOU were talking about adding weight behind the axles.
I'm suggesting some TH owners add 2000# or more back there, that's all.
Not sure where the "bad advice" comes in.
