Loft Cargo Slide

I recently started full-timing again in my Raptor. I'm getting a lot older now and don't get around so good. Plus this time I want to take more stuff with me. I've always wanted to make use of the loft bed space for more storage but because of an old back injury it was tough to maneuver stuff around up there.

A few years ago I built small slides with wheels on the distal end that would go the length under the dinette bench seats. Handy place to put more stuff. That's one in the top image below.

So I put the same concept to work on the loft with one of those cargo slides you see in some big class A's. I wish I had made the platform a few inches wider so the containers would fit a little easier but they still work. The slide will hold 300 pounds. To give its foundation more strength I mounted it on 2x4's laying flat and extending the full width of the loft so they would catch the loft framing.

I still need to find some thin carpet to put over the platform, but other than that this project is done.

My next mod will be to put a door on that cabinet so I can get into it from the end. Never used it before but it would be a good place for helmets and their paraphernalia.

Looks sharp, did you create a way to lock the bunk slide so it doesn't slide out in travel? Like if you hit your brakes?

I moved to a new park today which was my first opportunity to travel with the cargo slide. The main slide-out covers about 9" of the cargo slide. It can't move like this. Lucked out on that.
  • That yellow lever on the left is a latch. On the right is a pin that goes through all the rails, with a clip. I've also thought about drilling a hole in the platform and dropping a vertical bold behind the fascia of the loft. Also, need hooks on each side to run a strap over the top of the containers.
