Longest fifth wheel at most Yellowstone Campgrounds?

What's the longest fifth wheel you've heard about in Yellowstone campgrounds? Let's leave out Fishing Bridge since that campground allows any size.

I was at Canyon this May and a guy was upset that he was turned away with what he said was a 30 ft. For those of you unfamiliar, the spaces in the reservations say 40 ft RV. I'm asking because I plan to buy a fifth wheel or TT in the future. It sounds like I'd need two spaces. One for the fifth wheel and one for the tow rig to be under 40 with most trailers with my F450.

Not a problem currently since I have a truck camper. For those keeping score ... this year I towed my wife's uncle's 18th trailer with my truck camper loaded, and they had their own spot.

Reservation information is at this site. http://www.yellowstonenationalparklodges.com/stay/plan/reservations/ Look under Rates and Reservation Policies.

  • I stayed at Fishing Bridge with a 34 ft fifth wheel. I BARELY fit. When I left I had to pull forward about 5 ft into the 'woods' in front of the campsite (on the other side of the road)to get back out of the site. I now have a 38 ft fiver so am pretty much out of luck in Yellowstone.
Staying in the park does save about an hour or 1 1/2 hour drive time tho. And to me is worth it if you fit.
  • Our fifth wheel is 34 feet and we stayed at Madison Campground. It was really nice. We will stay there our next trip.
  • I'm with you Jim. That's why I got the truck camper. I've stayed in a parking lot and driven into National Parks everyday. I really don't like doing that. What really smokes me is NPS will place a boulder or log across the camp site. I could have fit in there if they didn't put that log across the site. I can't count how many I saw in Smokey Mtn Nat Park. I understand a curb or rock to prevent rolling off the site. The NPS just doesn't like RV's and wants to be as dysfunctional as possible. OK rant done.
I think I would just get the longest site available and wedge 'er in there.

Yes and it is a wonderful place to stay. We spent 2 plus weeks there last year in September.

We stayed here for 4 days and had no issues with driving to different parts of the park. Plenty of space around your trailer for slides and such. Beautiful RV park close to town and close to the west entrance.
  • We only sleep at the campground, so central location is very good for us. I'd consider staying outside the park if I enjoyed driving in traffic on the exact same road more. But, I guess that's why there is more than one choice!
  • If I were you I wouldn't worry about allowable length in Yellowstone Park and stay outside the park. I have a 34 ft fifth wheel and we stayed at West Yellowstone and drove into the park each day and had a great experience. Those parks inside Yellowstone are just too crowded for my tastes.

  • I'm not sure about the lengths they allow but I'm sure more goes into it than just site length...after all you need to make the turns and have room to get into and out of the sites. When they say 40ft RV they might be referring to a MH.
