Go to a Ford dealership, and look at the weight sticker on the drive 's door, of a truck just like what you want. Find the actual cargo capacity of that truck (gross weight minus empty weight). From that number subtract 200# for a hitch, the weight of all the people you plan to carry, and any gear you will carry in the truck. What's left is how much pin weight you can carry. Multiply that by 4.5 and that is how much the gross weight (not empty) of the trailer you can tow, legally.
This works for any truck. It's how much pin weight you can carry, that determines the size of truck you need.
