I have to respectfully disagree with such a broad statement. There are many fully equipped toy haulers that are well suited for half ton trucks. You just have to do the math and match the two together.
You won't be too light on the tongue weight without water either, the load in the rear will just off set the heavier front weight. I doubt that I'll ever tow mine with water in the tanks.
You're right it was an overly broad statement. But I would advise any one buying a Toyhauler with the intention of pulling it with a half ton to put it on the scale loaded with the toys and the water, then do the math.
