Looking to buy in the next month a used 5th wheel toy hauler..... pulled with 2004 Dodge 3500 Dually.
......what advice can you give me as to how to prepare the truck?
I have no advice on Toy Haulers. You have a lot of truck there, but still pay attention to trailer size/weights. You can overload a dually just like you can overload a 1/2 ton.
For truck prep, a good dual-jaw 5th wheel hitch for sure.
On the performance side....I wouldn't worry about tuning or anything else. The one thing I think is a must is an exhaust brake. We towed out in Wyoming recently and the OEM exhaust brake on my '14 RAM was just about the most amazing thing I've seen. Maintaining speed on the downhills was a snap and kept everything perfectly in control. There was a guy next to me that went down Teton Pass in a late 90's dodge with 6-speed and NO exhaust brake. He said he smoked the front brakes all the way down and it was just about the scariest thing he's ever done.
