Since the truck is a long box and the fiver has a curved front is there any real chance of hitting the box
This depends! How much rail clearance do you have? Do you have 6" or 9", there is a big difference, do you want to gamble with just 3" as the 5er swings over the box?
I just did a quick measurement on my 8' bed, 54" to pin from front of box, 34" to front of tool box!
I don't worry as my Lowes tool box is only rail high.
