Maiden Voyage with Scale Stop

Well, the weather wasn't much better than 2 weeks ago but we went anyway. Had a nice weekend at Eby's Pines in Bristol, IN, and got to do some shopping at the RV salvage outlets for some new parts to freshen up the RV. Scored some deals and had a great time! Trailer towed like a dream with the Hensley Trailer Saver air ride hitch! Thanks to Lantley for the recommendation on that one!

First nite was 27* and the the furnace only ran from time to time...I kept the fireplace on the in the living room and that really helped keep the temps even.

Didn't have time to hit the scales on the way up, but stopped on the way back, so the fresh tank was only about 2/3 full. Admittedly we packed light for this trip, but had the 4 GC batteries, Honda Genny, full water and propane, all the major weight adders. Looked like it was sitting a little more level in the driveway:

Anyway CAT scale has a cool new app where you can register with your credit card, then when you pull on the scale and enter the scale #, it charges your card and emails you the weigh slip, so you don't have to go inside. The app is called "Weigh My Truck" and it's in the app stores. Both of us stayed in the truck for this weigh.

Ram Specs:

Front Axle: 6,000
Rear Axle: 7,000
GVWR: 12,300
GCWR: 25,300

CAT Scale weights:

Front Axle: 5,420
Rear Axle: 6,020
Trailer Axles: 9940
Total: 21,380

From a previous weigh, the truck alone weighs about 8,300 lbs, and the Hensley hitch weighs in at about 200 lbs, so 8,500 total. Using these numbers would put the total trailer weight at 12,880, so that gives me some headroom against the trailer GVWR of 14,000.

All in all it towed great and very happy to know that I'm not close on any ratings.
  • Looks like a good time Burbman.

For RV surplus we've visited Ickes RV Surplus in Montpelier Indiana. We bought a replacement microwave for our camper for $50 there.
  • Hi Burbman,

Thanks for sharing those numbers. It looks as if you have chosen well--and it is a fine looking rig.
