Jim-I am just expressing my opinion on the experience I have had with the Commercial T/A's. Granted the new ones are different and hopefully a better.
Although only 2 sizes of tires were on the recall I wonder how many other sizes had the same issues without a recall. A year or so ago I had the tire that completely blew the tread off, Luckily there was very little damage to my rig. I jacked the rig up, spun each tire and found 2 more with broken belts. I recommended the T/A's to the wife's cousin just before I had my failures. The cousin told me last week he had 1 blow out and one with a broken belt. Same size tires.
I would suggest to anyone changing from ST to LT tires that they contact the manufacturer about warranty.
Here is the latest info. that I received from BFG. today. It is almost word for word the same response I received about 18 months ago.
Hello Charles
Thank you for your email. We welcome the opportunity to serve you.
In regards to the email you sent stating:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I am planning on replacing the ST tires on my fifth wheel trailer and using BFG Commercial T/A's, They would be 225/75R16" LT LRE. and would be replacing ST225/75R15" tires. The BFG tires in 16" would have a greater load capacity than the 15th.ST tires they will be replacing.
Would the BFG tires be warranted if there was a failure?

Good Afternoon Charles,
Thank you for your interest in BFGoodrich tires for your fifth-wheel trailer. We do not recommend using passenger tires on trailers that specify ST (Special Trailer) tires. If the trailer manufacturer calls for ST tires, it is important to replace with ST tires in order to maintain the load requirement.
ST (Special Trailer) tires are constructed with heavier materials in the casing as compared to passenger rated tires giving the ST tires more strength and load carrying capacity. So you can't accurately compare the load carrying capacity between your current ST tires and the Commercial T/A passenger/LT tires you are interested in. The ST tires also have a stiffer sidewall and flex less making them more compatible with the trailer’s suspension system.
If your fifth-wheel trailer manufacturer specifies that your trailer requires ST tires, then a passenger tire application would not be covered under the manufacturer's warranty. The exception would be in the event of a safety recall.
We appreciate your business and thank you for choosing BFGoodrich.
