Margin of error on hitch capacity question
I currently tow a 5er with a gvwr of 13,800lbs. I'm buying a TH with a gvwr of 15,400lbs. My current hitch is a Reese 16k slider. Do I need to replace my hitch with one that's rated for heavier traile...

Margin of error is built-in by the manufacturer. Your 16k hitch will be fine.
But you might find the ride a little rough, and decide to try an air-ride hitch or pin box. But definitely try what you have first, then decide.
