Mattress upgrade

We are not happy with the mattress. Looking at options to upgrade an d find it would have to be a custom build. Who has had this problem and solved it. Is the answer a Memory foam pad, a mattress topper, a bag full of feathers.

Let me know what you found to make it better.
  • Our last trailer had a RV king. We purchased a mattress topper on sale at Camping World. Our present trailer has a queen bed. When we took delivery we replaced it with a new pillow top mattress from a local furniture store.
  • We cut a queen memory foam topper in half for each of our rear twins. Kind of a redneck move but man what a difference. I used to toss and turn all night on those flimsy mattresses. I really haven't felt like the memory foam is too hot, but I understand a lot of people do.

What size is you mattress?? Queen, RV Queen, King RV King?

Our 5er firs a standard Queen, so we just went to a mattress store and bought a quality mattress that felt good.

  • Agree with Halmfamily.

We got a topper and have never been sorry.
Would do it again in a minute.
  • We care about weight, but not enough to stop us from getting a regular cal queen pillow top. And we closed off the under bed storage too. That was one of my requirements for our 5er, a good night sleep.
  • Memory foam toppers are heavy. If you have storage under your bed which is accessed by lifting the mattress you will probably have to address the struts as they will be overwhelmed with the weight. I had to use a prop in my previous trailer. Comfortable but they sleep a little hot for my taste.
  • We added a 4" memory foam pad we picked up at Sam's for $99 and now sleep like a baby.
