Mattress

We are going to purchase a used 5th wheel. The mattress in the bedroom looks like it’s to big for the bed. It’s a king and fits from side to side but when you bring the slide in you have to lift the mattress because it’s to long. If we put the same size in there and lift the mattress when the slide comes in will that damage the slide? Where can we purchase a king mattress for a camper besides camping world, I’m looking for a good price. Thank you in advance.
  • Just received a mattress from Mattressinsider.com. Haven't slept on it yet but plan to this weekend. It looks comfortable and they make regular size and RV size. They also make custom sizes. Came rolled up in a box. US made, so that's good. 10% off from RV-Geeks.
  • I replaced my queen mattress with a king standard, yes it hits the dresser when retracted but does no harm. Now my feet do not stick out the end.

I see you bought a Tochta mattress, how you like it?
  • Two of the last rv's we have had experianced the same thing, the mattress would scrunch up to the wall when the slide came in, never saw any issue with it. I would guess it was being scrunched by about 3 maybe 4 inches?

  • It’s the size I’m worried about because I can not just buy it at any store. If I put a mattress in there that is to long and I have to lift it for the slide to come in, can it damage that slide with the weight of it when traveling?
  • What brand/type do you use at home? Are you happy with it?
  • There are several places on line that sell RV matreses, and will ship to your door. Just do a search for them. like the previous member stated, sounds like yours is a regular lenghth house one. We ordered one 2 years ago, put inside opened it up and was ready to go. To make sure you can measure the lenght and width you need before placing your order. Our unit came with a "King" but was too long for my wife to manuver around. I just trimmed off the extra base lenght with a jig saw and replaced with a Queen RV Short mattress. Good Luck and Happy Camping !!!
  • Most RV beds are 'rv short', for example the mattress would be "RV King short" not a regular mattress. So it sounds like someone replaced the original with a normal full length mattress. You have to live with it or replace it with an RV short.
