Montana vs Big Country Need Help

We are looking for opinions from Big Country and Montana 5th wheel owners. What do you love and what do you dislike? Have you any had significant problems? We are transitioning to extended stay and may move on to full-time. Thanks!

Big Country is warranted for full time use. Bought our BC last year and love it. Basement is huge and amount of room inside is incredible. Wife likes island/stove/kitchen area as a whole. I love the LR and layout to sit and or watch tv. Plenty of room in hallway closet slide, tho we don't have a w/d in it seems like a odd location for it. Slide in slide for bedroom is AWESOME. Enough room at foot of bed to put a twin size air mattress. 2nd fireplace is GREAT. Bath offers a large counter and shower is wide enough to dry off in w/o hitting things. At docking station, there IS a divider to seal off it from basement. Have seen on other coaches, this is wide open so bug/critters can fly up or crawl into this area-----IMO not good. Downside of our coach is that bathroom access on the road is nill next to none due to side isle entry, but can live w/ it. Coach isn't light, but tows great. On the video in post #2, wonder how thick the doors are. On the BC, they are thick. We went from a 35' BH to a 41' RL, 4 people down to 2. Odd yes, but love it.

Looked at this unit 2 weeks ago and we really liked it. The bedroom was amazing. Our only concern is the width when the bedroom slides are out, hitting a tree. Can you only use the main slide when needed and not put out the secondary slide?

Yes. With bed slide in, it's just like a regular bed slide. Still able to move around bed w/o a prob and access to closet as well. Only thing you won't have is the extra room at foot of bed. We cannot extend the bed slide when it's parked next to garage, just the whole slide (hallway closet/bed). No probs doing what we gotta do. Only thing you lose besides the room is not being able to open the windows next to bed itself.

  • We have a 2016 Montana and it is warranted for full time use also. With 9k miles on it now and over 150 nights spent in it we have not had any problems at all and it has never been back to the dealer. We ordered ours with the Legacy package so we would get the molded rear cap because I think the plain rear flat cap looks cheap but that's just me. The unit is heavy but we tow with a dually so I never have to think about weight. You should look at both and pick the one you like best and hope you get a good one because no trailer maker is immune from building a lemon. We ordered with Goodyear 614 tires, slide awnings, Ariston washer and dryer. I then added disc brakes, Joyrider 2 shocks, EMS, a second power awning and a bunch of other stuff. We like it and would buy another Montana in a second. And to answer ACZL's question above our baggage doors are 15/16" thick. Not sure about the High Country they showed in the video.
  • If you really want to see for yourself how they hold up, go look at used models of those brands.

  • Do they both have the same floorplan layout? We just bought a Big Country last week after shopping for a few months. The fit and finish was nicer than other makes we had seen and I really liked the living room layout with the recliners and the TV position. The kitchen had more pantry space than other models.
