I have a 1989 4500 and had the same problem but of course no brain on mine so no code. I messed with the carb without success and finally bought a factory carb kit and rebuilt the old one. Seems it was about $75 dollars. I am not good with carbs but the rebuild went smooth and it has run great for at least the last 4 years.
Everyone I talked to or emailed said that the rebuild kits were not available but I found one on ebay.
