Our failure was not due to lack of inspection or maintenance.
In 2012 we upgraded to 8000# forward self adjusting Dexter axles, wet bolts, new shackles. The original morryde equalizers did not have a 'tube' through between the shackle clips to acommodate that. Research morryde part # pt 108-020. If you have these, you have wear problem in your shackles and the equalizers.
As an old time welder and fabricator, when upgrading to the stronger axles, thus stronger brakes, I also corrected this mfgr. defect.
The rubber equalixers didexhibit acceptable cracking and separation as described in morryde's literature as serviceable. But for how long, under what load they do not specify?
It just took one last bad bridge deck bump to finish the job.
I posted this as an alert to others to be suspect of 'acceptable' wear & tear, as a question to others with similar trouble.
If you are ever in Wendover, Ut., in need of a tow, repair, a dry camp spot, help while getting fixed up, find Lonnie at 'The Shop.'
