Morryde SRE4000 vs CRE300 or...Pin Box???

Hi,
I am considering an upgrade to smooth out the ride of my trailer. I have an Open Range trailer that is about 13k loaded and has Lippert equalizers. Truck is a Ram 3500. Ride is pretty level.

On highways with expansion joints or bumps I get some pretty noticeable jolting which I think is chucking. I do not feel that I am light on the pin either.

I was considering a Morryde Pin Box to resolve this issue but then I read an article about the SRE4000 suspension they offer. It said that the suspension upgrade reduced the bounce of the trailer and therefore also reduced chucking. Makes some sense.

What do you think is the best bang for my buck? A Morryde pin box, the SRE 4000 upgrade, or the cheaper CRE3000? The latter two are cheaper to buy, but I am not sure what the cost of labor will be. Seems they will cost more to install than the pin box.

thanks for your help

Matt

I went from the stock lippert equalizers to the MORryde SRE4000 which was absolutely an upgrade. I did that to hold me over till I could get out to Indiana and have the IS installed. At that point I then sold the SRE4000...

    A MorRyde pinbox.

  • What year and configuration is your truck, fill in your public signature!

    What hitch are you running?
  • The CRE's are pretty much for the ride of the trailer.....well worth the upgrade over stock.Do the wet bolts as well. As for the hitch, you have several options. MorRyde offers a couple choices. TrailAir, 5th Airborne. TrailAir & 5th AB cushion the up/down movement on kingpin and offer an amazingly smooth ride w/ no jolts to truck. KInda neat watching the RV move up/down and not feel it in truck. The MorRyde rubber pin box, well others who own it will have to chime in, but from what I've seen, it has a massive rubber block that allows the RV to move/flex for/aft, side/side but IMO doesn't take the jolt out of the up/down on truck. Again, IMO, that's where the TA & 5th AB shine as they do both. A good hitch on truck aids as well. I always thought the Reese hitch I had was good until I got the B&W. To say the least, I love the B&W and 5th AB set up for our coach.
  • I had a pretty bad "chucking" problem and most of the remedies are expensive and many don't solve the problem. I decided to try the MORryde rubber pinbox and it made a huge difference. I don't think it solves the chucking problem but it dampens it enough that it doesn't bother me anymore. I will not own another 5th wheel without a MORryde pinbox.
  • Husband did upgrade SRE 4000 a couple of years ago. Also did set bolts added heavier leaf springs. We were having problems with broken springs. So far so good and ride smoother.
