Mountaineer 345dbq 2014

We just bought this rig, Been traveling with a 30bhs north country TT. This is our first 5er and after making arrangements at a camping ground we are told that it has a very steep entrance. I am towing with a chevy 2500hd 6.0 crew cab 4 wheel drive. I have max tow rating of 13900 and the trailer is about 12000. I having never towed this big of a rig want to know what your thoughts are. Am i going to have a rough go of it with my rig?
  • Not going to lie - had the same truck, smaller 5th wheel, and the unit towed fine on the flats but was really challenged in the mountains. Be prepared for the engine to spool up high into the rev range - it's typical of the 6.0l Vortec V8. You'll run out of payload real quick with that Mountianeer attached.
  • If your truck is 2011 or newer you should be Ok if you have 4:10 axle, but will not win any races. You will likely be exceeding truck payload (2500hd), as pin weight will be around 2,400 lbs.
My fiver in sig weighs 12,280 loaded and I have no complaints towing with my 6.0 gasser 1 ton.

  • Thank you guys I appreciate it. We do have 4.10 gear and a 2013 2500hd. It says 13900 tow rating but truck dealer say 16900. We do this all the time. We had a dakota and bought a 30 ft tt . Towed ok but whute knuckle. We bought a tacoma and bought 34 ft tt. Towed it but talk about white knuckle. We bought tge one we have now with a chevy 1/2 ton. Towed fine but really worked truck. Now we have hd2500 and we are maxing it out. Thank god I put 70k a year minimum on my trucks and trade every other year or less.
