Moving to 5th Wheel from TT. Lots of Questions

I have a NorthTrail 28 BRS that I have used for three years. My first modern camper. I've never really been crazy about storage, etc and have decided to move up to a 5th wheel.

1. I'm trying to figure how to rate units as far as Chevrolet, Buick, Olds, Cadillac. I'm trying to stay in the 98 Olds range of amenities. How do the following rank: Jayco Eagle and/or Premier, Keystone Sydney, Cross Roads Cruiser, Heartland Sundance, Open Range Roamer/ Open Range.
2. I have a soft cover on the bed of my truck. 2011 Ram Mega Cab. From reading on here seems that a Super Glide or Airbourne/Sidewinder is the way to go. Do either of these sit low enough in the bed to allow me to use my cover when not hooked to the trailer? Is there another auto slider to consider if the don't? Do either or both of these have under the bed mounting rails available?
  • I may catch some flack from this posting but here goes. A long long long time ago I bought my first TT. It was a 1968 Terry. My family and I used it for many years then I sold it and bought a Class A Pace Arrow. After several years of use and two engine swaps I sold it and bought another TT. I sold that and bought a slide in Lance which demanded a heavier pickup. I bought a new Dodge 2500 Cummins diesel. After a 3 week vacation to central Mexico I was ready to murder my wife and she was ready too. We sold that and bought my first Fiver. I had a gooseneck hitch installed in the bed and bought a gooseneck/fifth wheel adapter. I really liked that configuration. No bulky fifth wheel hitch to remove or reinstall when you need your pickup. The fiver was a Forest River product that was a piece of crap. I fabricated a tow hitch on the rear of it and pulled an enclosed motorcycle trailer behind it. Several trips to Mexico and I was done with Forest River, forever. I sold that Fiver and was camperless for a while. I then bought another Fiver and sold that and upgraded to an Avion Fiver. A truly wonderful product. I fabricated a hitch on it, fabricated a mount for the Honda 3000is gen set then sold it. There are many states that won't allow multiple trailer configurations so I bought another Class A,a Rexhall Aerbus. Now I can tow our boat in any state in the union without restrictions.
  • HERE is rating chart.
I believe that the hitch will not disturb the soft cover from closing when unhooked, but before the purchase ask the store.
