Doable if I want to spend all day while the truck overheats in reverse. Some transmissions do not run the oil through the cooler in reverse. Also doable if I want to damage the truck.
I use 4x4 low to back up the driveway with my '97 auto ... my '07 6 speed doesn't have the overheat issue but it still is nice to slowly crawl up the driveway in 4 low.

I use 4-Low with hubs unlocked often when maneuvering at slow speed on steep driveways, etc.
