Need brand advice

We are looking for our first 5th wheel and need opinions or reviews of the different brands. We are looking for a 31ft or so, front door, booth dinette, all season, no bunks for $30k or so. I know they are out there but would like owner feedback as to what direction we should be going as to brand. Of course when you go to dealerships, they say their brands are best and the rest are ****. Also, we'd like a brand that will stand behind their product. We are considering Keystones, Forest Rivers and Jaycos. Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!
  • Thank you all for the replies. We are slowly narrowing in on a new one. I am going to keep researching for a bit longer. Safe travels to you all. Dream it, Do it, Live it, Love it and Never Regret it!
  • Don't get duped into thinking because it has a decal that says "4 seasons" next to the door that it will work in the Winter in colder climates. There is no industry standard for 4 seasons. Sometimes it's nothing more than that decal.

    B.O.
  • If I were you, I'd take a day trip down to Danville. We've bought two toy haulers there. Anywhere in the Va. area and surrounding states, its hard to beat there selection and prices.

The forum's general opinion of 5th wheel mfg quality

If I were buying again, I'd be looking at Arctic Fox.

If you buy a 2 year old unit, you'll save quite bit of money.
The attached link is somewhat suspicious: Finding a New Horizon at the price level indicated would be a bit difficult...of course, I am thinking the Majestic.
  • Check out the RV Consumer Group; www.rv.org for their more objective appraisals of what is out there.
  • in that price range I would be looking at used.

It was posted a week or so ago. He has some excellent advice about how to narrow down your choices based on usage, budget, weight etc.

Currently in Buffalo, WY on our western states road trip.
  • We own an Open Range.... they are built great.... 4 season and 2 year warranty....
  • The 3 you mention are pretty much the Ford, Chevy and Ram of the RV world. Everyone has a favorite if it's been good to them. Everyone will trash a brand if they had a bad experience. Realistically, they are equal and factors such as ideal floor plan, weight, and local dealer are more important than a few internet complainers or brand fan boys.

Realize these are all basic entry level RVs. They aren't the quality of your house and won't hold up to you living in them full time. There is lots of particle board, cheap materials and generally low grade construction. Oh yeah, they also depreciate like nothing you've ever owned.

All that being said, I love my Keystone and loved the Forest River I had before. For the money you spend the value is great as long as your expectations are grounded. 20-30 nights a year and these RVs should treat you well. Of course, there are folks that get the short end of the statistical curve and have problems but that happens in all areas of life. Do your research on price and be a smart consumer and RVing is a lot of bang for the buck compared to other ways you can spend your "fun money."
