Need help choosing my next 5th wheel please.

I am in love with the front living room floorplans and have narrowed it down to 3, but can't decide. We camp in Ohio during the summer, mainly weekends and a couple of weeks in the summer. We have a seasonal site, so no towing involved.

Open Range 386FLR
Keystone Cougar 337FL
Coachmen Brookstone 375FL

Does anyone own one, know of these, or have any thoughts/insights on them?

Thank you in advance for your opinions/help :)
  • Personally, I'd avoid the brands listed by the OP. Look at the Jayco line. They seem to be pretty good history. Winnebago is not marketing 5th wheels and has bought the Sunnybrook line.

Additionally, I am not engrossed by the front living area 5ers. If you look closely, they are short on storage in the kitchen and bedroom areas.

I'm sure Open Range has an owners forum. Find it and look for the same complaints you have seen on regular sites. It may be just one or two people who post the problems you keep reading about.

I actually got those complaints from an Open Range forum, seemed every owner had some type of complaint .... kinda scared me :(
  • The ones you indicated above all look fine and there are plenty of other front living floorplans available from Heartland, Grand Design, and Jayco to mention a few. As mentioned keep looking for the floorplan that's the most ideal for your camping requirements and purchase from a reputable dealer that prides itself in delivering great customer service should warranty issues arise. Good luck and enjoy your new rig!!!
  • Being on the road is what beats the heck out of our rigs.

I would recommend you go with the one you like best, and face any issues head on when or if they come. Don't regret not getting the unit you want.

I would recommend, if you can, get one off the lot. That way you can spend a good amount of time with it, to ensure it is working well before you buy it.
  • Every brand seems to have someone that has had issues with it. Sometimes you just have to read between the lines and pick the unit that you feel suits you best. For example, when we were looking, I could not find any reviews about the unit we liked (bought) but found as many negative reviews on Coachmen as I did positive. For the money, it appeared to me to be the best option for us with nearly everything we had dreamed of in a 5er. Perhaps we have just been lucky but have had no warranty issues. We did have things zapped by voltage recently (no fault of Coachmen) but have since installed a Progressive Industries EMS. We've had our unit about 1.5 years and have been very happy with it. Go with your gut and get the one you like best. My suggestion would be to research your dealer too because I honestly believe dealer prep makes a huge difference in whether you will have many or any warranty issues. Good luck!
  • All RV's have negative comments and that is what you are mostly going to see. Usually if a person likes it they do not comment or that thread quickly dies becasue there is no drama involved.

I have looked at open ranges and liked what I saw and perceived. Out of my price range though.

Have you looked into Owners Forums for those brands you are interested in?

By one that suites your needs, get the best bang for the buck, buy from a good dealer, get a extended warranty and ENJOY!!! they pretty much are all the same in Quality, I am a fulltimmer and have many friends with all kinds of brands and they all have the same quality issues as the next guy or sometimes you get one made by the employee of the month with no problems it is a******shot

What he said, they're all about the same quality wise. Get the floor plan that best suites your needs/wants that way you'll be a happy camper. Remember once you buy it you're going to have to keep it, for a while anyway. LOL till a "better" one catches your eye.

  • That's what I've been doing. But they all have things I want and don't have some things I want ... if I could just piece them all together LoL I'm concerned about some negative comments against the open range which is the one I like the best, but worried about so many negative comments :(
