I can't find the 2008 but the 2007 version of your trailer has a GVWR of 15,500. So if the trailer axles weighed in at 14,440, that would suggest either you have only around 1,000lb pin weight (massively too low of a percentage) or you are well over the GVWR of the trailer.
The tare weigh of the truck doesn't make sense. Most 3/4 or 1 ton trucks tare out around 6-7k lbs. Was that the rear axle tare weight?
Assuming yes...that would give you a pin weight of around 2000lbs (or less if you had cargo in the bed. At 20-25%, you should be up around 3000-3800lb pin weight, so you are way light even with the water moved forward. It was likely even worse with the liquid further back.
So problems:
- Well over GVWR.
- Very light on pin weight
Adding a 1000lb of pin weight to get up to 20%, likely means 1200-1500lb of shot as far forward as possible and that much more over GVWR.
Not sure the exact weight of your cycle and lift, but that could easily be taking 800lb off the pin since it's so far back. A much better option than adding more weight to an overloaded 5er is to remove weight from the back. I'm not a big fan of double towing but that's probably a better option than the current setup.
With 17 % pin weight the trailer pulls very nice, I don't need to be in the 20-25% range although adding a third axle will put me in that range when the bike is not loaded.
I have a nice enclosed trailer I have double towed behind this trailer. It tows very nice and safe. The problem is the BC government dosn't want us double towing in that province. I want to be able to bring the bike into BC.
