Need Wheels help/ no tires, promis

Can you scan and post your brochure or a picture of the make and model designation on your 5th wheel? I'd love to see that. You may have a real collector's item there!! I wonder if Fought left some Mobile Suites stickers in his desk drawer at Sunnybrook? ;)

Rusty: That is an amazing history. I can only tell you, my brochure and information say Mobile Suites Titan and it has 6k axles. It's been a great camper for us. Has had some minor problems but seems like they all do.

A Titan series? As in SunnyBrook Titan?

For those that aren't aware, Doubletree RV was started as a subsidiary of SunnyBrook Manufacturing by David Fought, one of the founders of SunnyBrook; SunnyBrook RV was another subsidiary of SunnyBrook Manufacturing. That's why some of the VERY early Mobile Suites will have a label on the rear quarter panels that says something like "Mobile Suites by Doubletree RV, a division of SunnyBrook". Mobile Suites owners were eligible for membership in the SunnyBrook owners' club.

Fought subsequently took Doubletree RV private in a splitoff from SunnyBrook. SunnyBrook still wanted to play in the premium 5th wheel market, however, so they introduced the SunnyBrook Titan to compete with the Doubletree RV Mobile Suites. At that time, the Mobile Suites owners were booted out of the SunnyBrook owners' club. I can remember when that happened as we owned a 2004 Mobile Suites at the time.

That's why I'm confused when you say you have a Titan series Mobile Suites - 2 different RVs by 2 different manufacturers.

Rusty: ours is a 30" Titan series, came with 6k lb. axles and Goodyear 225/75 tires. Wheels are 16" and I have replaced them with an aluminum spoked wheel each rated at 3960 lbs. and 110 lbs. pressure. I replaced the Goodyear tires with Michelins 285/75 as indicated earlier.
This should actually give me a stronger set up as before.

Going back to your original post, you state that you have a Mobile Suites with a 6000 lb axle rating (3000 lbs per tire). That's concerning me since we had a very early Mobile Suites (2004 MS 36RE3 #1291) that came with the 16" chromed steel wheels, but it had a 7000 lb axle rating and came equipped with Goodyear G614 RST tires rated 3750 lbs @ 110 PSIG.

After a couple of failures of the early design G614s, I replaced the tires and wheels with 17.5" Michelin XTAs rated 4805 lbs @ 120 PSIG and never had another problem.

Anyway, back to my point. If you indeed have a Mobile Suites with 6K axles and are upgrading wheels, I would never put anything less than the current upgraded G614s with the 3750 lb rating under it. A 3042 lb rated LT235/85R16E isn't enough tire for these heavy 5th wheels regardless of your sticker info (which, if I were you, I would double-check with DRV).

Now, if you have a Select Suites, then the 6K axles might be a possibility....

Sorry for not getting back. Yes, the wheels were leaking air. The 5er is a Mobile Suites and definitely not overloaded. I've learned a lot about wheels over the past days and was able to find some aluminum spoke wheels, not offset that fit great.
The old wheels just began to leak, on our last trip, 3 of the 5 I had on our way home. The valve stems were fine.
Rusty, that is interesting about the bad batch of 16" wheels as that is what I had.
The wheels I got were rated at 110# 3960 lb. weight. They should work fine.

Early Mobile Suites had a bad batch of 16" chromed steel wheels that would corrode and develop pinhole leaks where the wheel center was welded to the rim. Porosity in less expensive cast aluminum wheels isn't all that unusual.

Are you sure you need new wheels. It sounds to me like you need new valve stems. Or a good cleaning of the rims where the tires meet the rim.
I've never heard of wheels leaking air.
