Is replacement possible by owner without special shop equipment for removing & pressing new bearings in?
No, a press is needed and some kind of a jig so that the new bearing is not damaged when pressed in. My original bearings are 10 years old and check out okay. However I plan on replacing them before this travel season. A machine shop nearby can do the work and I found the best deal so far from Dexter, maker of my axles. They are not cheap so for the recommendation to replace them every two years I'd say not needed and too $$.
