First off what hitch is it that you have just to get this started? That is what your asking right?...Second, the new trucks offer a puck system. Third, I just installed a 5th wheel hitch in a new Dodge 2500 with no tow package. It does require the bed rail system (not always user friendly) but it has very specific brackets that go under the bed and not so fun to install. My advice to you is this. Forget about what hitch you have now. Sell it. Buy your new truck with the puck system. If you do not know what that is, Google it or youtube it. By far, having a factory set up tow package is way worth the money in my opinion. No after market install, no drilling the bed or frame.. Look at the B&W companion. You said a 3500..are we talking swr or drw? Diesel or gasser? Do you know how heavy your going to tow? What transmission? What gear set? 2x2 or 4x4? These are even more important considerations than transferring an older 5th wheel hitch...to a newer truck. So keep this in mind, the hitch is only part of the equation...if your buying a new truck, don't sell yourself short. Go for it, buy something that you will be able to use and upgrade the other stuff later down the line.
