New 5th wheel & now new Tow Vehicle

We really did it now. Went from 27' 5th wheel and 2500 duramax short bed truck to a 38' (39'11" overall length) 5th wheel and just purchased 2016 diesel chevy dually long bed. No more slider hitch needed.
Need advice and good hitch. Seen 5 different ones mention on other topic. New 5er has max weight of 15500#.
Thanks in advance

  • I think it depends on how often you are going to take the hitch out and what prep you have. Personally I love the Andersen for the ease or removal and install and the SOLID tow experience. Others who have never used it will bash it so try and listen to those who have.

If you are for sure going with a standard 5er hitch you can't beat B&W hitches. Very reliable and strong. With that comes the extra weight and they are heavy!!

  • The only hitch I have had is a Curt Q20. Adjustable up and down.
Hopefully you have factory prep. If not I would look at a B&W Turnover with a Curt adapter in the gooseneck hole. Take it out and have a clean bed.
  • Congrats on the new rig!!

Before settling on a given make and model hitch, suggest making some measurements first (king pin height when level, bed height with 5th wheel hitched and loaded, etc.). Not all hitches have the same adjustment capability.

We almost purchased a brand new, name-brand, $1200 hitch. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to borrow a hitch to make some king pin and bed height measurements beforehand. As it turned out, the new, name-brand, $1200 hitch we originally wanted would not have adjusted nearly low enough to level our 5th wheel (even with a king pin adjustment). Could have been an expensive mistake.

    Good luck!

Hopefully you got the factory pucks. If so get the B&W that drops in those pucks. Chris
  • B&W, Reese, Pullrite, Curt, Andersen, they all make good hitches. Just a matter of which one you like best and can get a good price on.
  • Congratulations on your new rig! I went with a B & W hitch when I got a new truck last year. It's a 25k rated hitch. Kind of expensive, but I'm not worried at all about the trailer. I had a Reese hitch, 18k on my last truck. No problems with it either. It got the job done.
