I've yet to purchase a hitch for my f350 dually. Saw an ad for air safe and an earlier post on trailersaver hitches. Anyone have experience/ opinions on either?
From what I can tell that seems to be a good way to reduce chucking. We are waiting on a jayco pinnacle to arrive in a few weeks
You are probably referring to my post regarding the Trailersaver. I bought a 5er having never towed one and thought a #10k trailer behind a 1 ton dually - no problem. I couldn't have been more wrong. There are many causes as to chucking. Some are inherent to the trailer such as length, pin to axle distance, balance, center of gravity, pin height relative to roll center height. These are designed in and are not subject to change. Any trailer is going to bounce around and a good stout hitch is going to transfer every joule of that energy to the seat of your pants.
My advice is to budget in an air hitch from the outset especially when buying new. I wish someone had given me the same advice. It will be more money but not much more as regular hitches are also expensive. Resale value will be high at the back end of your travels.
Other downsides: The TS3 is heavy, more than two man heavy, so you will need some mechanical measures to get it out of your truck. You will need a source for air. Hitching and unhitching requires a little learning curve.
Upside; While you are towing look at your trailer and watch it bounce around in your mirrors. Then check out the hitch absorbing almost all that energy and feeling nothing on your backside.
By the way, the hitch I bought prior to the TrailerSaver was a BW Patriot.
