New Arctic Fox 29-5T price good or bad. Dreamer in Oregon

Wouldn't you know it , the wife likes the bigger 33'X11" 29-5T over the smaller 27-5L 30 footer. Hope I can still get into most state camp grounds. Have to do some homework and checking.

We were at the Northwood/Arctic Fox dealer today in Portland, Oregon and we saw a brand new 2018 29-5T with the following.

Rear camera
12 cu Fridge
6 point leveling system
Fan Vent with remote
Hide a bed
15 Air conditioner
Quick recovery water heater

Without any negotiating dealer give me a price of $54,775.

Is this a good price or should or can I possible get a better price around the Oregon area? What percentage should I be looking at? I am new at this game and seeking any help I can get.

PS: Yes I am still hoping to find a good used unit but all I see is Arctic Fox's 2010 to 2014 in the low of $40K to high of $49,000.

Remember me; several months ago, more like going on two years now, hoping to find a good quality use unit for around $30,000. I am still dreaming!!!!!!!

  • I've purchased ours Arctic Fox at Apache, I thought their price was decent and talked them down a bit more but not much. Hopefully you are there and not at Gauranty. I would purchase from Apache again.

I agree on the size of truck needing one ton. We recently changed trucks from a short box ext cab to a longbox crew cab. I've been relearning to back into sites.

I do believe the length of your truck will have more to do with sites you get into than the 5 additional feet of the two fifth wheels.
  • I bought a 2015 295T Artic fox Silver Edition from Sierra RV - winners - Colfax, Ca - For $54,000.00 Great saving tons of options, best deal ever for the value. I love my Artic Fox, best Fifth Wheel ever, this is my last RV, previous owner of 3 other new trailers.

Funny. I was a dealer over weekend and also looked at 27l. To small. The 29K pin weight to heavy for 3/4 ton. The 29T is best. Thats a good price. I am on east coast and get charged 2800 dollars for shipping.

The 29-5T will put any 3/4 ton that is rated to tow 13k to 14k over it's 10k GVWR and be right at the trucks rear axle weight rating. Mine has almost 3k pin weight, and that is with only about 15 to 20 gallons of water in the tank. You can get by with a 350/3500 SRW but barely.

Also for those in California, if you decide to purchase a 29-5T, be aware that the trailers GVWR is 15,700 lbs. This requires a non commercial class A license to legally tow it or any other 5th wheel with a GVWR over 15k.

  • Northwood, they put out great quality work and the customer service is great. We had a Fox Mountain and now a Arctic Fox 35-5z and we love it. They are heavy but we have loved our fifth wheel.

  • Our first 5th wheel had a rear side door. Never again. If the site slopes downhill to the rear once leveled that first step can be huge. At one site it was over 2'. Just saying....
  • Gosh Chuck, that's a really big unit. I have a one ton 7.3 a year newer than yours, and I pull 9300 lbs max weight.

I think you had better crunch some numbers and really see what that rig weighs and what your truck is capable of towing and pin weight. Most of the research I see says around 12,000 pounds is about it.

I will say that hauling my 9000 pounds up steep hills in first gear isn't much fun, and first gear was my only choice coming down too. This is up and down a well used highway here in B.C.
  • There is always room for buyer negotiation. A buyer needs to do a lot of homework, such as you are doing. Once you know what model you actually want, you have to decide what you feel is a reasonable price to pay for it. That is when you tell the sales person what you will give them for it, rather than would you take this much for it. They need to know you are serious, ready to buy, right now. Just remember, your offer is pending final inspection, and any down payment refundable if RV does not pass inspection. This needs to be written in any contract drawn at time of agreement.

You can always leave after your offer is turned down, they'll get your number. They will call you, or you can go back, raise offer if you wish.

It will be harder to negotiate a price, on a brand that is not widespread, and readily available anywhere.

  • Chuck,
When we went shopping for our Fox several years ago the best price came from Apache Camping Center, which I assume is where you went shopping. Next best was Thunder RV in LaGrande, and they were very competetive and had a large inventory.
  • Chuck,

I am also looking at this model even though it is longer than I wan't. Almost 34 feet from pin to back cap. The 27 has the rear kitchen which neither of us like. As far as the price I checked on http://www.seedealercost.com and they don't show AF.

I think if we decide on this model we will order to get exactly what we and and offer to the closest five dealers to us to bid. From everything I have read we should be getting at least a 30% reduction of MSRP.

If we are going all the way up to a 34 foot RV we are also throwing DRV Mobile Suites into the mix as their price compared to AF isn't that far off if they are willing to deal on a special order at same margins and considering that DRV is an another lever for quality.

    Good luck!
