new fifth wheel company

I am thinking about buying a Grand Design fifth wheel, but the company is only 2 years old. Does anybody have thoughts about buying from a new company?
  • I have a Grand Design Momentum Toy Hauler and absolutlely love it. I researched for months the major manufacturers (Keystone Raptor & Fuzion, Heartland Cyclone and Dutchmen Voltage) before I decided on Grand Design. Like a previous post said the 3 owners of Grand Design all held major positions in Keystone before they decided to branch out on there own. They got back to there grass roots where customer satisfaction and quality constuction are the number one priorities. Not mass production and how many can they pump out and how fast. I have spoken directly with owners Don Clark and Bill Fenech and General Manager Marc Hauser. All were extremely receptive and will answer any questions you may have. Also they agreed to some upgrades on my Momentum that were not even available on the option build sheet. If you have any questions you can go on the Grand Design Forum, Bill Fenech is frequently on there answering questions or call the company direct. You won't be disappointed with a Grand Design unit if you choose to purchase.
  • I think the grand design is an awesome unit. One thing that kept me away was the wood trussed roofs. We went with another brand but the Grand design was defiantly in the running. A new start up company really doesn't bother me, if there is a down turn like the last one some of the biggest companies go away, I'd think quality control is better in a start up over an established brand.

  • We purchased our 355 Momentum back in October. We had a 07' Raptor 3814 that was a decent unit after we had worked out the numerous bugs, but it was a lengthy and difficult process. Seemed like every time we took it out something else went wrong with it, especially in those first few years. I had been looking to replace it but just couldn't find anything that gave me that "WOW" factor. Had almost decided to go with a Class A or Super C and pull a enclosed trailer until I noticed the Momentum line at our dealer. I caught them right at opening and got to look all over the unit for a good hour before anyone noticed me. Very impressed with the overall construction and neatness of the unit. Short version is that we have had the Momentum out on several trips and love it. Have had ZERO issues and have not even had it back to the dealer since new. There are a few little minor things that I would change but I am nit picking here and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

  • We purchased our Open Range from a company not too old. Our unit was the 162 unit they built. I have no regrets with the company or their 2 year warranty. Would do it again. Good Luck and Happy Camping
  • I have 2 friends with a Solitudes, they are nice units but they are built no better or worse than any other brand they are doing nothing groundbreaking in construction or anything and both have had minor issues with theirs just like the rest of us ,the only thing they lack IMO is "bang for the buck" compared to other MFG's for the same price, my Montana has got more goodies than the Solitude A.K.A slide toppers ,better suspension, solid Hickory throughout, arched roof ,ceiling fan etc.... but in the End I would recommend them to Anybody they sure are Pretty 5th's and their Customer support is great!
