OMG!!! We went looking at used 5ers today and what an education!!
The salesman directed us to the line of used 5ers and left us to wander.
The second unit that we walked into, we instantly fell in love with the living quarters! A 2011 kestone montana 3400RL.It's a good thing that the salesman was not around, because we could not have enjoyed being excited about it in his presence!
What a nice feel of quality and design!! Lots of cabinets, lots of counter space (we HAVE to cook most of our meals due to dietary restrictions and we are avid cooks and cook together), AND a microwave-convection oven (we do not use MW, so this was exciting for us to have the option of convection). A DESK and entertainment center. A washer and dryer included!! We felt right at home!! This was us!! :)
We excitedly went up the steps to check out the BR. Oh...the dreaded shower and sink in the BR! Could we live with this? Could we not? well, it is really nice in here, with 3 skylights...nice and bright!! It still felt homey! Because everything else was right, maybe we could compromise on this....
We sat in this chair (2 recliners), that chair, the sofa...the rotating table, so many kool things that we had not seen before! Oh...we love this!! Then I look at a sign that is hanging on one of the cabinets.... What???!!!! $49,000!!!!!! Used????!!! We were shocked!!! We had no idea that used trailers could cost so much!!
The salesman finally showed up. I asked him what this unit cost when new. He said, about $86,000! Well.....I guess we hit one of those high-end models!! Now we know!!
He left again. I began to open up cabinet doors. The unit smelled pretty good. I opened the pantry door and whoosh!! A moldy smell!! Only coming from within that cabinet. I looked for signs of a leak...no stains or visible differences on any of the surfaces or cracks. I could not figure it out. On our way home, it hit me....the shower wall is directly over that pantry. There would have to be some kind of internal leak for the odors to escape. What a pity!! We might have tried to make it happen for in the low 30s if we could, but the mold smell is a HUGE deterrent! I think that it would be a HUGE problem to try to fix!
The education:
1. I do not need to look for leaks anywhere, as I am sensitive to mold and can detect mold and mildew the moment the door is opened! 90% of the units smelled musty! Also, some of them had a "doggy odor."
2. The older, cheaper ones...the ones under $20,000 did not appeal to us at all, in terms of form or function.
3. We have champagne taste and want to spend beer money!! If we could find these high-end models at beer prices, we would be very happy!!
