Good bearing grease should be sufficient.

I'll get started tomorrow. Doing the complete change out for self adjusters from Southwest Wheel. I'm old and slow so it might take me a couple days because I know I'll find some other things that need attention.

I have done a fair number of brake jobs in my life, although never electric brakes on a trailer.

• Jack the trailer up and PROPERLY support it. Remove tires and brake drums, but leave of side assemble for REFERENCE. There is usually a front and a rear shoe. Don't get the mixed up.
• Before disassembly, check to see it the the shoes are exactly the same as what you will be taking off. Better to know BEFORE complete disassembly.
• There are special tools to remove the hold down spring and retainer, but it can be done with a pair of pliers.
• There are other tools to help remove the return spring, but a GOOD pair of locking needle nose pliers sometime works better.
• A wire brush, spray brake cleaner and rags are required to clean the backing plate.
• There are usually 4 points where the shoes slide on the backing plate. These should be lubed with special high temp disc brake grease. You can get a small tube for a couple of bucks.
• Carefully inspect the wires going to the magnet. If they are chafed, get a new magnet,

Take your time and reference the opposite, still assembled side.

Wizard if he did what I consider the right way he bought loaded backing plates. So everything is brand new and no assembly required

I say "ditto" ... I can rebuild drum brakes and have done more than a few. Last brake work on my trailer, I bought loaded backing plates. It may have cost a few dollars more than buying the components, but the convenience and time savings was well worth it.
My back thanked me as well ... didn't cost me a trip or 3 to the chiropractor afterwards, this time.

I forgot how common these are for trailers !
