You know I agree with you, BUT, if after a couple of years this Sailun tire proves out, I'd be willing to save some money and go with it...IF, it proves out...hopefully, no one will have to go through a tire failure and get new tires or the rv repaired...it is such a PAIN to have to go through that....

OTOH you may never have any problems with Brand X tires and you come out several thousand dollars ahead. :)

Chris, I'm in total agreement with you on this....With several now using these Sailun tires on 5er's with a little more GVW, I'm curious to see how they hold up...I believe that GY has fixed their problem, but again, that's just "me" thinking that.

ONLY reason I'd even consider a Sailun tire is due to all of the Quality processes put into their manufacturing process and getting the certifications proving it all out. I also get the impression that most of GY G614 issues were with possibly, 06-08 years?? Don't know, so I won't speculate. They were there for me and though a question as to why or how my tire lost it's tread, they didn't question it, just put 4 more tires on for me...heck, it was them that saw the weak spring pack and called it to my attention... I thought they were trying to back out of helping me, BUT they just wanted me to know about it....didn't deter them at all to replace, not one, but all 4 tires...customer service at it's best....Will Sailun do the same as GY if something happens to one of their tires and it causes damage to ones rv or tire replacement comes into the picture??....again, only time will tell...and I have several more years to look at the results of Sailun tires and it's customer service before having to decide on my next tire replacement, (well, hoping for that anyway)

WOW...I would be concerned if 5er does have a GVW of 24,000# and I only had 18,000# of tire weight coverage..."IF" loaded to full GVW, You would almost have to hope you had well MORE than a 6,000# pin weight just to break even...that would leave 18,000# or a little less on the three axles and the 6 "D" rated tires.

As you stated, sounds to me like limits are being pushed....and, it sounds like they're stating that YOU made the wheel selection, and could only use D rated tires due to your selection of wheels??, I personally, at the very least, would have 6 "E" rated Michelin RIBS or a comparable tire on your 5er....Doesn't make a lot of sense....the GVW of the 5er is 24,000, but if axes de-rated to only 6,000#, than in reality, they're stating, don't load over 18,000# on your 5er.....you don't have 6,000# of the 24,000# you could use due to the wheels you're saying you selected:h

ON EDIT: I'm ashamed, should have read your entire post...with 6 GY G614's, your 7,000# axles are covered and the 6 tires rated to handle 3750# each gives you 22,500# of coverage, so now you are MORE than covered with axle weight...figure pin weight, if you're loaded to 24,000# would "possibly" be 4800#...just a guesstimate...so you are good to go sounds like to me:)

I have just been through the tire selection process. What a stressful event. I have read most of the postings on this site.

When I ordered it I was told that due to my wheels selection, they could only put on the D range tires. Thus they derated my 7000 pound axles down to 6000 pounds. I always felt like I was running right at the edge of disaster with those tires. I did weigh the trailer and I was right on the edge of capacity. With the Marathon tires being 10 years old but showing no signs of deterioration I still felt they should be replaced. Early in their life I did have one failure. But, by the time I caught the failure all that was left of the tire was the bead and some of the belting. Subsequent to that failure, the tire behind it developed a bulge in the sidewall. This is a tri-axle by the way.

I looked at the Carlisle RH, 235 80R 16 which would be a direct replacement size. The rims on my trailer being only good for 65 psi would need to be replaced too. A look at the Carlisle website revealed a statement that they claimed their tires were good for 1-3 years and about 8000 miles. I looked at the Michelin Rib tires but was turned off by their website stating that any tire used for trailering was not warranted. So, I went to look at the Maxxis tire because I had read good about them. I also looked at the Goodyear G 614. Warranted for 4 years; they have a good reputation on this site for trailer damage repair. They are good for 3750 pounds at 110 psi. I ordered 6 and new rims; good for 3900 pounds and capable of 110 psi. Rims were hard to find in my bolt pattern and lug bolt size in Aluminum.

I considered going to 17.5" wheels but at $250 per wheel, I stopped looking when I saw that price.

So, the search is over. $3300.00 and like a lot of you folks, I hope that I did the "right" thing.
